    Improving the adaptation process for a new smart home user

    Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been around for many years and plays a vital role in developing automatic systems that require decision using a data- or model-driven approach. Smart homes are one such system; in them, AI is used to recognize user activities, which is a fundamental task in smart home system design.There are many approaches to this challenge, but data-driven activity recognition approaches are currently perceived the most promising to address the sensor selection uncertainty problem. However, a smart home using a data-driven approach exclusively cannot immediately provide its new occupant with the expected functionality, which has reduced the popularity of the datadriven approach. This paper proposes an approach to develop an integrated personalized system using a user-centric approach comprising survey, simulation, activity recognition and transfer learning. This system will optimize the behaviour of the house using information from the user’s experience and provide required services. The proposed approach has been implemented in a smart home and validated with actual users.     Nonlinear Realization of the Local Conform-Affine Symmetry Group for Gravity in the Composite Fiber Bundle Formalism

    A gauge theory of gravity based on a nonlinear realization (NLR) of the local Conform-Affine (CA) group of symmetry transformations is presented. The coframe fields and gauge connections of the theory are obtained. The tetrads and Lorentz group metric are used to induce a spacetime metric. The inhomogenously transforming (under the Lorentz group) connection coefficients serve as gravitational gauge potentials used to define covariant derivatives accommodating minimal coupling of matter and gauge fields. On the other hand, the tensor valued connection forms serve as auxillary dynamical fields associated with the dilation, special conformal and deformational (shear) degrees of freedom inherent in the bundle manifold. The bundle curvature of the theory is determined. Boundary topological invariants are constructed. They serve as a prototype (source free) gravitational Lagrangian. This paper explores whether individuals who telework are more likely to exhibit maladaptive behaviours and consequently engage in non-substance based addictive practices. This paper aims to address both societal stigmas and gaps in existing current literature by identifying that behavioural addictions share the same patterns to substance-based abuse so that organisations can provide effective intervention and support strategies for employees

    Microbial dynamics during various activities in residential areas of Lahore, Pakistan

    Bioaerosols are ubiquitous in the atmosphere with their levels affected by a variety of environmental factors as well as type of activities being carried out at any specific time. The present study investigated how indoor activities influence bioaerosol concentrations in five residential houses of Lahore. Agar coated petri plates were exposed face upwards for twenty minutes in kitchens and living rooms during activity and non-activity periods. The temperature and relative humidity levels were noted as well. The bioaerosol concentrations in kitchens during the activity time ranged between 1022 to 4481 cfu/m3 and in living rooms from 1179 to 3183 cfu/m3 . Lower values were observed during non-activity periods. A paired-t test revealed a significant difference in bacterial loads during activity and non-activity times in both micro-environments (p = 0.038 in kitchen and p = 0.021 in living room). The predominant species identified were Micrococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., and Bacillus spp. which are a common constituent of the indoor environment and are known to be opportunistic pathogens as well

    We define quaternionic Hermite polynomials by analogy with two families of complex Hermite polynomials. As in the complex case, these polynomials consatitute orthogonal families of vectors in ambient quaternionic L2L^2-spaces. Using these polynomials, we then define regular and anti-regular subspaces of these L2L^2-spaces, the associated reproducing kernels and the ensuing quaternionic coherent states

    Cosmic Pathways for Compact Groups in the Milli-Millennium Simulation

    We detected 10 compact galaxy groups (CGs) at z=0z=0 in the semi-analytic galaxy catalog of Guo et al. (2011) for the milli-Millennium Cosmological Simulation (sCGs in mGuo2010a). We aimed to identify potential canonical pathways for compact group evolution and thus illuminate the history of observed nearby compact groups. By constructing merger trees for z=0z=0 sCG galaxies, we studied the cosmological evolution of key properties, and compared them with z=0z=0 Hickson CGs (HCGs). We found that, once sCG galaxies come within 1 (0.5) Mpc of their most massive galaxy, they remain within that distance until z=0z=0, suggesting sCG "birth redshifts". At z=0z=0 stellar masses of sCG most-massive galaxies are within 1010≲M∗/M⊙≲101110^{10} \lesssim M_{\ast}/M_{\odot} \lesssim 10^{11}. In several cases, especially in the two 4- and 5-member systems, the amount of cold gas mass anti-correlates with stellar mass, which in turn correlates with hot gas mass. We define the angular difference between group members' 3D velocity vectors, Δθvel\Delta\theta_{\rm vel}, and note that many of the groups are long-lived because their small values of Δθvel\Delta\theta_{\rm vel} indicate a significant parallel component. For triplets in particular, Δθvel\Delta\theta_{\rm vel} values range between 20∘20^{\circ} and 40∘40^{\circ} so that galaxies are coming together along roughly parallel paths, and pairwise separations do not show large pronounced changes after close encounters. The best agreement between sCG and HCG physical properties is for M∗M_{\ast} galaxy values, but HCG values are higher overall, including for SFRs. Unlike HCGs, due to a tail at low SFR and M∗M_{\ast}, and a lack of M∗≳1011M⊙M_{\ast}\gtrsim 10^{11}M_{\odot} galaxies, only a few sCG galaxies are on the star-forming main sequence.Comment: Style fixes to better match ApJ published version.
